TV personality Serwaa Amihere recently advised Ghanaians under 40 earning GHS5,000 or more not to rush to leave the country.

According to Serwaa, if you are in your 20s or 30s and earn a minimum of Ghs5,000, it would be wise to take your time before leaving Ghana. While it may seem attractive to experience life elsewhere for many Ghanaians, she stressed that it’s essential to understand that living abroad may not be as glamorous as it appears.

The Ghanaian broadcaster shared her thoughts on social media amid the growing debate on how much one needs to earn to live comfortably in the country.

“I think if you are in your 20s and 30s and earning, at least, Ghs5000 and above you shouldn’t rush to leave Ghana.  It’s not all that rosy out there,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

While some comments questioned the number of Ghanaians in the country able to earn close to that figure, others stated that they want to leave Ghana in search of better opportunities due to the lack of social amenities, poor infrastructure, and regular power outages (commonly referred to as “Dumsor”).
